Adding a Touch of Luxury

Create a budget-friendly luxurious space with rich tones, accents of metals and clean lines.

When looking for accents and making a space seem more upscale or luxurious, it's easy to get overwhelmed and frustrated with all the options available. Here are some of our tips that can help make this process not so difficult.

First off, aside from your budget of course, choose what your space will be used for. The function of this space will determine what types of furniture and fabrics you can use. If you are in a bright, sun-filled, screened in room, you would not want to place certain fabrics, furniture or accessories that could fade or be damaged. Think about the people/crowd that will be utilizing the space. If you have pets or small children, you would need to focus on more durable and easy-to-clean upholsteries and items. If it is for a reading area or library/office, you could go with more comfortable stuffing for long periods of sitting with high back seating and rich woods or clean lines. These are all details that seem nonchalant & overlooked, but are very important when creating a space of any kind.

Secondly, COLOR! Don't be afraid of color! Try choosing 3 colors you want to focus on in your space: one main color, an accent color for a pop of focus & lastly a compliment to the others. In the photo above, the green shades are the main color of this space that the whole look is grounded upon. These tones are used in the velvet chair, the greenery, accent pillows and even the wall color. The rust/orange tone is the "pop" color! The "pop" can be as boldly used or minimal as you would like. Here they chose it in seating and accessories and copper detailing. The compliment of these two choices in the photo is the neutral tones: the grays, tans & taupe; the earth tones. This whole look works together in harmony when each portion has a focus and a function.

You may even say, "well, I want to do a monochromatic look with a pop of color, not all the wood tones or bright shades." You can definitely do that! In doing so, still choose one color to accent w/ tones of grey, black and white. Here in our storefront window we did just that! Can you tell what our pop of color is?

It is so much more than "placing stuff around."

Below is the color wheel to give you a better idea of what colors compliment and those that do not. To read more about the color wheel and color theory, read here.

Once you have settled on these things, the sky is really the limit when it comes to creating this type space! Your next focus should be on paint color or using the existing color of your wall if you are happy with it as is. Again, don't forget about your 3 colors you decided upon.

When shopping for your rug, furniture and accessories, find one piece that is your show-stopper. There are many showrooms and designers who have these items. Budget will come into play for sure, but there are many groups we use without our showroom that have these accent pieces that really make the space stand out.

Some of our recent vendors are showcasing these pieces. There are a lot of wood tones & colors seen out in nature going on right now as well as a monochromatic palette with one color pop. There is really no limit with what can be considered "luxurious" when it comes to your space. Vanilla might be a great look on ice cream, but your home deserves more.

Vanilla might be a great look on ice cream, but your home deserves more.

Every layout & look is different from home to home. For instance, try placing your "show stopping" piece (like the blush colored velvet accent chair above) in your space accenting the fireplace over a soft neutral rug and place a floor lamp nearby with a small side table to hold your readers, a book/magazine and a throw blanket over the top edge. Make that the first thing you see walking by that room/area inviting you in to sit a while and just take in the luxury. Luxurious spaces are not about how much they cost or how many high-end furniture pieces are used. Ultimately, it is your space and your opinion of luxury in your home. That will be different than what others may say is luxury in their home.
